A Maternal Health Crisis
Approximately, 1000 women die each day from complications during pregnancy or childbirth. Nearly all maternal deaths and disabilities could be prevented.

6 – 7:00 pm: Local musician Melanie Joy Hall performs folk, sultry jazz and old-fashioned country music.
7 – 8:00 pm: No Woman No Cry, a film by Christy Turlington Burns – a documentary revealing powerful stories of at-risk pregnant women in four parts of the world, including a remote Maasai tribe in Tanzania, a slum of Bangladesh, a post-abortion care ward in Guatemala, and a prenatal clinic in the United States.
8 – 9:00 pm: Panel Discussion
- Sharon Blake, nurse midwife with experience running maternity projects in Tanzania, Bangladesh and the USA
- Jeanne Faulkner, Oregon’s CARE advocate, ex-labor and delivery nurse, writer, editor and has worked on projects with Christy Turlington Burns
- local advocate & professional in the Portland maternal healthcare field
